How extraction usage works

An extraction counts when your outline is accepted for processing. Reviewing, editing, and exporting an existing result do not use another extraction.

Free extractions used earlier in the same UTC month count toward that month's Pro allowance after upgrading. Pro usage keeps your unused Free allowance available.

See the usage terms for processing failures and cancellation details.

Built for students

Everything you need to stay on top of your semester.

Accurate extraction

Advanced parsing pulls deadlines, exams, quizzes, and important dates from your outline.

Editable before export

Review and tweak events so your calendar is exactly how you want it.

Google-first, broadly compatible

Copy directly to Google Calendar, with an ICS fallback for Apple Calendar and Outlook.

Private and secure

Files are processed securely and used only to provide the service as described in our Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn a syllabus PDF into calendar events?

Yes. Upload a syllabus or course outline as a PDF, PNG, or JPEG. SemCal extracts events for you to check against the source. Review uncertain dates, times, and recurring schedules before exporting.

Can I review and edit the dates before exporting?

Yes. Review the extracted events, edit their details, and add or remove events before you copy or download your calendar. Resolve any flagged issues and check that the dates and timezone match your course outline.

Does SemCal work with Apple Calendar and Outlook?

Yes. Download the reviewed events as an ICS file to import into Apple Calendar or Outlook. You can also copy them directly to a new Google Calendar. These are copies or file imports, not an updating calendar subscription.

Is SemCal free to try?

Yes. The Free plan includes 2 outline extractions total as a one-time allowance; it does not reset monthly. Reviewing, editing, and exporting an existing result do not use another extraction. See Pricing for Pro and its current terms.

Will my calendar update if my instructor changes a deadline?

No. A Google Calendar copy or imported ICS file does not automatically update when your instructor changes a deadline. SemCal does not continuously sync with your LMS. Check course announcements and update the events in your calendar; importing again can create duplicates.
